Heritage of Eternus (Humans)

Humans of Eternus (Southern Kingdoms)character human eternus

Physical: The typical human of Eternus is from 5 to 6 feet tall and 120 to 200 pounds. These stats can vary widely however. Their hair color can be vary from black, purple, red, auburn, or brown and their eyes are usually the same color as their hair.

Architecture and Art: The most common type of house for the humans of Eternus is the small country house surrounded by a garden of fresh foods and herbs. Most of the poorer villages are agricultural and are centered around a large manor house and are populated by villagers. Larger buildings such as those found in most cities are made in a Gothic style that favors tall pointed arches, tall rooms with ribbed vaults, buttresses, large arched windows with brightly colored stained glass, arched doorways, and clustered shafts of tall and narrow columns. They are light, spacious, and graceful. The more upscale buildings feature free standing sculpture, stained glass works of art, and elaborate tracery on the window and door frames. The most favored style of art is the painting, particularly depicting beautiful countrysides, landscapes, important buildings, landmarks and famous figures like saints and popular royalty. Satirical pictures of those figures who are not popular that exaggerate their flaws are also enjoyed by many.

Capital: Walbrook City (Ruins) | Winchester (Southern Kingdoms) | York (Northern Kingdoms) |

Culture: The humans of Eternus are a very civic minded culture that believe in honoring tradition and religious piety by designing and or constructing many impressive monuments and improving the lives of those around them. These include but aren't limited to landscapes, stone circles, earthworks, parish churches, cairns, government buildings, statues, fountains, gardens, and most importantly Cathedrals and Royal Residences. The best way to impress the cultural leaders is to perform an act of service such as building one of these monuments. To be truly successful the monument should be in a place of great emotional need and effect a large number of people by boosting their spirits in some way. Choosing the best purpose for the monument, the best location, and the best structure is of utmost importance.

Customs: The people of Eternus have many customs. (see below)

Dress: Many men and women of Eternus wear armor most of the time but when in the home or a safe place they don their customary clothes. Women of Eternus take great pride in their hair and favor long braids.

Women: On formal occasions the women of Eternus take even greater pride in their hair and favor long carefully woven braids accented with a silver tiara shaped like tiny flowers and accented with precious jewels. They wear long flowing elegant silk V neck gowns embossed around the neck with golden thread and golden beads. They are accented with a long silk sash that is wound around the waist once, crossed behind, and then knotted in front. The ends of the sash have decorative tassels hanging from it. The sleeves hang down about 6 inches above the wrists and the borders of the sleeves are richly ornamented with exquisite thread work.

Men: The men wear colorful wool shirts woven up the front with crisscrossing laces and often have a small shield emblem with three lions embroidered on the sleeves. The pants are often dark and the boots are short and utilitarian. Their thin woven belts usually have an ornamented dagger on them.

Enemies: Modred - These traitors were once members of the Eternus race. They betrayed the king and fought him to a standstill before both he and they disappeared. They are particularly feared for their ability to appear as the other humans of Eternus and infiltrate its cities and institutions due to their ability to completely alter their alignment.

Etiquette: A proper introduction is an important part of the culture. Small talk should avoid things like age, weight, politics, or any other uncomfortable subject. At an informal dinner meat is cut with knives and a lot of the eating is done with the fingers from trenchers, or hollowed out husks of bread. One trencher and one drinking cup is sometimes used by two people if they are close. When eating a formal dinner use forks, knives or spoons on the outside first. If there is a side plate for eating bread rolls, use the plate on your left hand side. Put some butter on the side plate. Tear bread from the roll, then add butter just before eating it. Eat soup quietly, without lifting the bowl off the table. You should eat peas by squashing them against the reverse side of your fork. You shouldn't ask for more unless your host offers. Arrive on time, but try to avoid being early in case your host is not ready. Take a bottle of wine or some flowers or chocolates to give to the host as soon as you have arrived.

Special: Invitation to Tea and Scones - When drinking tea do not pour the tea from a teapot as soon as it has been made; leave it for a minute or two. Once the teapot is halfway empty, or if the tea is too strong, pour the hot water into the teapot. When eating scones use a knife to cut the scone into two halves. Put jam on each side then carefully spread clotted cream on top. Eat the top and bottom halves separately. Some people prefer to add the jam on top of the cream, although this can be more difficult.
