Shield Bonus: A shield bonus is the health and defensive increase that you gain from using a shield. The bonuses are based on the quality of the item. A +3 item would give 3 to defense. Remember that shield armor does not add to defense unless you are able to ready your shiedl which requires the winning of initiative.
